In this part of the CEFTA Trade Web Portal you will find the procedures that apply to foreigners entering the economy in each CEFTA Economy. Border control procedures are divided into two parts: visa requirements and working permits. This trade portal only includes border procedures for citizens from CEFTA Economies. These include: 1.Border crossing procedures for citizens from other CEFTA Economies; 2.Visa regulations and fees for citizens from other CEFTA Economies; 3.Working permits for citizens from other CEFTA Economies; 4.Documents for obtaining working permits in the respective CEFTA Economy. Visa regime


A visa is a permit allowing an alien to cross the State border enables him/her to enter and stay in the economy for the period specified in the visa or transit through the territory of BiH, provided that an alien meets the requirements relating thereto. An alien shall have the obligation to obtain visa before arriving at BiH a border crossing post.

A visa can be issued only to an alien who possesses valid passport with period of validity at least three months. An application for issuing visa has to be filed on form, that must be fulfilled correctly and completely.

Types of visas


The airport transit visa (Visa A) enables the alien to pass through an international transit area of an airport without an actual entry into the economy, during the discontinuation or continuation of an international flight; will be issued to an alien for one, two or multiple transits via international area of the airport during the transit period, and the period of validity is three months.
(Article 29 of the Law on Movement and Stay of Aliens and Asylum, and Article 18 of the Rulebook on Entry and Stay of Aliens).

A transit visa (Visa B) enables an alien traveling from a economy to a third economy to transit through the territory of BiH.
A transit visa will be issued for one, two or, in exceptional cases, multiple transits through the territory of BiH. The total period of stay in territory of BiH, during one transit voyage, can not be longer than five days. The validity of visa is up to six months. A transit visa may be issued only if an alien is in possession of an entry visa of a neighboring economy to which he/she travels or through the territory of which he/she continues to travel.
Article 30 of the Law on Movement and Stay of Aliens and Asylum, and Article 19 of the Rulebook on Entry and Stay of Aliens).

A short term stay visa (Visa C) enables an alien to have a single or multiple stays in the economy, provided that no continuous stay, or the total duration of several consecutive stay in BiH, may last for more that 90 days within a six month period, commencing from the date of firts entry. A short term stay visa shall be issued for a single or multiple entries into BiH.
A short –term stay visa shall be issued for a validity period not exceeding one year.
Exceptionally, a short- term stay visa may also be issued for a validity period longer than one year if this is in interest of BiH, which is decided by the MoFA BiH upon the consent obtained from the Ministry.
A short term stay visa shall be issued for business, education, training and similar purposes, for tourist or other travel for the private purposes, travels to political, scientific, cultural, sports, religious or other events, as well as the travels for other reasons requiring only a short-term stay.

A long-term stay visa (Visa D) shall enable an alien to enter and stay in BiH within the period of up to six months within one year, commencing from the date of the first entry. A long term visa shall be issued for a single or multiple entries into BiH.
A long term stay visa shall be issued exceptionally in such situations where for the purposes of stay in BiH  a period of more than 90 days is required within the period of six (6) months.
A long-term stay visa shall be issued for a validity period not exceeding one year.
Exceptionally, a long-term stay visa may be issued for a period of longer that one year if this is in the interest of BiH, which shall be decided by the MoFA BiH upon the approval of the Service for Foreigners' Affairs.
